Project Proposal

First built in 1909 and expanded in 1917, Adams Elementary is the oldest school in Spokane. Enrollment growth in the area required the addition of several portable buildings in the 1970s, and the main school building has issues with efficiency, accessibility, functionality, and security.

The current building also does not fulfill Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design, lacking an elevator and appropriate ramp access. At this time, students living in the Adams boundaries needing these accommodations must transfer to a different elementary school.

A 2015 SPS bond funded the design of the new Adams, which will be efficient, accessible, and incorporate space for Boys & Girls Club of Spokane County programming for the south Spokane community.

The design has been completed by NAC Architecture of Spokane and Garco Construction of Spokane will be the builder.

An open house was held in early Dec. for members of the community to visit the current school before it is razed in early 2026. A groundbreaking and construction of the new school will take place in Feb/March of 2026.

As with the Madison School project, Boys & Girls Club of Spokane County has signed on to invest in the facility. This will bring down costs to taxpayers and provide after-school programming at Adams for the south Spokane community.
